President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making history as the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.

The appointment, which takes effect from January 10, 2026, is for a four-year term. Odusote, 57, will succeed Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure as Director-General ends on January 9, 2026, after eight years in office.

Until her appointment, Odusote served as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School.

Her elevation marks a significant milestone in the history of legal education in Nigeria and reflects growing gender inclusion in leadership within the justice sector.

A seasoned academic and administrator, Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.

She also holds a Master of Laws degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, as well as a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.

She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since risen through the ranks, serving as Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics and Head of Campus.

She also spent a period as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom.

Odusote has published widely in reputable local and international law journals and has presented scholarly papers at several legal education conferences.

In addition, she has served on various committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, she will oversee the Law School’s academic leadership, administrative management and strategic direction across all campuses, while serving as a key liaison between the institution, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers and the Nigerian Bar Association.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
