Protesters and law enforcement have clashed in Minneapolis, United States, after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot and killed a woman in her car.

The 37-year-old woman, identified as Renee Nicole Good, was a US citizen.

Local officials said Good was acting as a legal observer during protests against President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Clips of the incident which happened Wednesday show the woman in her car. ICE officers then approach her from a truck, repeatedly asking her to “Get out of the car”.

One of the officers is seen walking behind her vehicle, toward the front of the car.

Good then tries to drive off but is slowed down by the masked ICE agent who earlier walked behind her car and comes to shoot three times at her.

Her car is then seen hurtling out of control and crashing into other parked cars.

Other clips later show her body hanging motionless from the driver’s seat.

Kristi Noem, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary, said in a news conference that “a woman attacked” officers and “attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle” after the officers got stuck in the snow.

Trump called the fatal shooting “a vicious situation”, also alleging Good appeared to run over the ICE agent.

“I think it’s horrible to watch. No, I hate to see it,” he later added.

Tension has been growing in parts of the US over the incident. In Minnesota, federal officers pushed their way into a crowd of protesters and began shooting pepper balls toward the crowd.

Videos also showed agents deploying a gas-like substance at protesters forcing them to gasp for air and retreat.

Asked whether ICE’s response was excessive, Trump avoided a direct answer and instead blamed former President Biden’s immigration policies.
