According to the corps, the accident occurred on Tuesday at about 11:40 a.m. at Gidan Bassa community, following a head-on collision involving two vehicles.

Vehicles Involved

The crash involved a Toyota Avensis belonging to Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State and a Sino truck owned by Dangote Cement Plc.

The vehicles, with registration numbers Kogi BJK172LG and BBR719SA respectively, reportedly collided while in motion, leading to the immediate death of five occupants.

Casualties and Injuries

Those who lost their lives included three children—two females and one male—as well as two adults, one male and one female.

The FRSC disclosed that a total of 12 people were involved in the crash, while the remaining seven victims sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured persons reportedly suffered bruises, fractures and other minor injuries and were promptly taken to Ekpe Hospital in Ganaja and ASCO Hospital in Ajaokuta for medical attention.

Cause of Accident

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking.

The corps advised motorists to exercise patience and strictly obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road crashes.

The FRSC also revealed that four hand-held mobile phones recovered from the accident scene are currently in its custody.

Meanwhile, the wrecked vehicles and other personal belongings were handed over to officers of the Nigerian Police Force, Ajaokuta Division, for further action.
