The Bureau News reports that Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has paid a condolence visit to Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, following recent tragedies in the state, including the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President described the late Speaker’s passing as a painful and irreplaceable loss to Kebbi State and Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
“We will not abandon you in this moment of grief. Kebbi is close to our hearts, and we share in your sorrow,” Shettima said.
The Vice President also expressed deep concern over the recent security incidents in Shanga Local Government Area, where communities such as Gebe, Kalkami, Tunga-Remi, and Kawai suffered destruction, leaving many residents displaced.
He further lamented the killing of 11 security personnel in Boni, Masa, who lost their lives while responding to distress calls, assuring that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
Shettima disclosed that President Tinubu had directed him, alongside the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to ensure immediate intervention and support for affected communities.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security operations and restoring peace across Kebbi State.
Despite the sombre occasion, the Vice President commended Governor Nasir Idris for his leadership, citing progress in infrastructure, education, and inclusive governance.
In his response, Governor Idris appreciated the visit, describing it as a strong demonstration of solidarity and national unity.
He revealed that about 11 persons, including security operatives, were killed in an ambush while responding to a distress call in Shanga Local Government Area.
The Governor also announced that the state government had approved N100 million to support victims displaced by banditry and N60 million for families of fallen security personnel.
Speaking on behalf of the family of the late Speaker, the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sanusi Mikailu, commended the Governor’s support and leadership during the difficult period.
The Bureau News recalls that the late Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, passed away on April 6, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, after a prolonged illness.
The visit concluded with prayers for the repose of the deceased and for peace and stability in Kebbi State and Nigeria at large.
