The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced the sale of nomination forms for aspirants seeking elective positions at both national and state levels ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The party said the exercise covers positions including the presidency, governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats.
Speaking with journalists in Kano, the PDP Secretary in Kano State, Hon. Rabiu Saleh Wangal, disclosed that the party had established a secretariat and committees to oversee the process of purchasing nomination forms across the state.
Wangal said the PDP had introduced fresh guidelines aimed at ensuring orderliness during the exercise, stressing that aspirants would no longer be allowed to arrive with large crowds of supporters to obtain forms.
“Coming with a crowd to buy a form is not part of our process. We are doing things in an orderly and dignified manner,” he said.
He further explained that in constituencies where multiple aspirants are contesting for the same position, the party had constituted reconciliation committees to mediate among contenders and promote consensus.
According to him, the reconciliation committee in Kano State is headed by the Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ali Karza.
Wangal noted that reconciliation efforts had already been carried out successfully in several local government areas, with aspirants obtaining nomination forms peacefully.
PDP Insists On Recognised Leadership In Kano
The PDP secretary maintained that the party in Kano State remains united under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Bello Gambo Bichi.
He urged members of the public to verify the authentic leadership of the party through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
“Anyone who calls himself the party chairman without INEC’s recognition will be prosecuted if taken to court,” Wangal stated.
He commended the PDP national leadership for promoting unity within the party in Kano State despite recent political developments and defections.
According to Wangal, the PDP continues to attract politicians from other political parties who were allegedly denied democratic opportunities in their former platforms.
Women, Youth Aspirants Get Fee Discounts
The party also announced concessionary measures for women and youth aspirants ahead of the elections.
Wangal disclosed that female aspirants would pay only five per cent of the approved nomination fee, while youths below the age of 40 would pay 50 per cent of the fees approved by the PDP national leadership.
Commenting on the defection of some prominent PDP members in Kano, Wangal insisted that the development would not weaken the party’s structure in the state.
“It is not bigwigs who drive the party. It is the young men and women around them who go out in the sun to campaign for the PDP. They are still with us, and by God’s grace, the PDP will win the Kano State election and form the next government,” he said.
He called on residents of Kano State to support credible candidates and participate actively in the democratic process.
“We are calling on everyone who can contribute to come and join us in supporting PDP candidates to ensure victory,” he added.
The Bureau News reports that political parties across Nigeria have intensified preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
