Nigerian Army Neutralises Terrorist, Arrests Suspected Couriers in Kogi State

By Queen Madaki

The Nigerian Army has achieved a significant security breakthrough in Kogi State, neutralising a terrorist and apprehending suspected logistics couriers during intelligence-led operations in Lokoja Local Government Area, The Bureau News reports.

Intelligence-Led Operations Along Jamata–Owara Axis

Troops of the 12 Brigade intensified checkpoints and clearance operations following credible intelligence reports. During the patrol along the Jamata–Owara axis, soldiers intercepted a suspected terrorist courier transporting supplies on a motorcycle.

A search of the motorcycle revealed a modified fuel tank concealing ammunition, alongside three mobile phones and a purchase receipt, raising concerns over ongoing terrorist logistics in the region.

“Further intelligence exploitation led troops to a suspected logistics exchange point. During the encounter, troops engaged fleeing terrorists, neutralising one, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Recovered items included a motorcycle, a pump-action belt with cartridges, charms, drinks, a mobile phone, a side bag, and N20,000 cash,” the operational report stated.

Impact on Security in Lokoja

The operation highlights the Nigerian Army’s proactive approach in tackling terrorism and ensuring the safety of residents in Kogi State. Security experts emphasize that such intelligence-driven operations are vital for disrupting criminal networks and preventing further attacks.

Residents of Lokoja have welcomed the Army’s actions, urging continued vigilance and closer collaboration between security forces and communities to reinforce peace and security.

Ongoing Commitment to Curb Terrorism

The Bureau News notes that this operation is part of wider military efforts across Northern Nigeria, aimed at dismantling terrorist and insurgent networks and safeguarding lives and property. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, with follow-up operations expected to target other suspected logistical points.
