COVID-19 Alert: Cross River Traces 10 New Suspected Cases After Foreign Worker Infection | Nigeria News Today

Authorities in Cross River State have identified 10 additional individuals showing symptoms of COVID-19 following exposure to an infected foreign national.
The Bureau News gathered that the development comes days after the state confirmed a fresh case involving a foreign worker of Chinese origin linked to a company facility in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
Health officials disclosed that the suspected cases were identified through intensified surveillance and contact tracing operations in the affected area.
Contact Tracing Intensifies in Akamkpa
The State Epidemiologist, Dr Inyang Ekpenyong, said the individuals were discovered during field investigations at the workplace of the index case.
According to her, the affected persons have been placed under isolation, while their movements have been restricted as part of efforts to curb further transmission.
“They have been identified and isolated as part of our containment strategy. Surveillance has been intensified in the area,” she said.
Ekpenyong further confirmed that the infected foreign national is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and is responding positively.
Government Urges Vigilance
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk, reassured residents that the situation is under control, stressing that COVID-19 remains a global health issue.
“COVID-19 is not peculiar to Nigeria. But we’re determined to contain it. There’s no cause for alarm,” he stated.
He urged residents to continue observing preventive measures such as regular hand washing, use of face masks where necessary, and adherence to public health advisories.
The Bureau News reports that health authorities have activated response mechanisms and are closely monitoring the situation to prevent wider spread.
