Lokoja — The Bureau News reports that the Kogi State Police Command has arrested principal suspects linked to the murder of a fresh graduate, Aminu Abubakar.

Nigeria News Today: Police Nab Notorious Robbery Suspects

In a statement issued in Lokoja, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, identified the suspects as Garba Godwin Ibrahim and Ashema Usman Samson.

According to the police, both suspects are ex-convicts who were previously jailed for armed robbery and culpable homicide.

Investigations revealed that they had been involved in multiple violent crimes resulting in the deaths of more than 16 victims.

Recovered Items and Arrest of Receiver

The police disclosed that in a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation, operatives recovered the victim’s tricycle along with four other motorcycles suspected to have been stolen by the gang.

“The suspects carted away the victim’s tricycle and sold it to one Kabiru Idris of Anyigba,” the statement said.

Idris was subsequently arrested, and a search of his residence led to the recovery of the stolen tricycle and additional motorcycles.

He reportedly confessed to having ongoing dealings with the suspects and receiving stolen items from other criminal elements.

How the Crime Was Carried Out

Police investigations revealed that the suspects posed as construction workers to lure the victim to a secluded location, where he was murdered.

An autopsy confirmed that the deceased suffered multiple blows to the back of the head with a blunt object, resulting in skull fractures and fatal intracranial injuries.

“The act was premeditated and carried out with the intention of dispossessing the victim of his tricycle,” the police stated.

Suspects Arraigned in Court

The command confirmed that investigations have been concluded and the suspects have been arraigned before Magistrate Court 5 in Lokoja, where they were remanded in custody.

The Bureau News gathered that the remains of the late Aminu Abubakar, a resident of the Otokiti area of Lokoja, were discovered in a bush a day after he was declared missing by his family on March 18, 2026.
