The Bureau News: Over 150,000 Kebbi Women to Receive Empowerment Under Nigeria for Women Project

No fewer than 150,000 women in Kebbi State are expected to benefit from training, empowerment and community investment grants under the World Bank-supported Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP), The Bureau News reports.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Halima Hassan-Kamba, disclosed this during an inter-ministerial briefing organised by the Kebbi State Ministry of Information and Culture in Birnin Kebbi.
She said the project followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Kebbi State Government and the Nigeria for Women Project.
Nigeria News Today: Five Local Governments Enrolled in Kebbi
According to the commissioner, five local government areas have so far been enrolled in the programme.
She said each benefiting local government area is expected to mobilise 120 Women Affinity Groups, while female facilitators engaged under the programme are receiving monthly allowances.
Hassan-Kamba said the initiative is designed to improve women’s economic opportunities and strengthen social inclusion across Kebbi State.
The Bureau News Highlights Women and Child Welfare Initiatives
The commissioner said the ministry remains committed to formulating policies and programmes aimed at protecting, supporting and empowering women and children across the state.
She said the ministry’s interventions focus on skills acquisition, child rights protection, gender equality, and the prevention of child marriage, child abuse and domestic violence.
According to her, the ministry has recorded significant achievements under the administration of Governor Nasir Idris through people-oriented programmes designed to improve the welfare of women, children and vulnerable groups.
Hassan-Kamba said the ministry has facilitated the rehabilitation of overgrown orphans by providing life-support materials and cash assistance to help them establish small businesses.
She added that feeding and welfare support to social welfare institutions under the ministry’s supervision has improved by more than 200 per cent.
The commissioner also said annual mass weddings for less privileged men and women have been conducted consistently, with full provision of marriage items and household materials.
In collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, she said more than 45 trafficked children were rescued and reunited with their families.
She further disclosed that 105 children detained at the remand home were rehabilitated and reunited with their families.
Hassan-Kamba said the ministry’s partnership with UNICEF has strengthened social service delivery through the training of social workers and auxiliary social workers in selected local government areas.
She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to improving the welfare of women, children and vulnerable groups through sustainable and inclusive programmes.
The Bureau News reports that the Nigeria for Women Project is expected to create new economic opportunities for women and strengthen grassroots development across Kebbi State.
