The Bureau News: Kebbi Says Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Are Key to Societal Development

The Kebbi State Government says it has recorded significant achievements in women empowerment, child protection, social welfare and rehabilitation as part of efforts to promote inclusive development, The Bureau News reports.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Halima Hassan-Kamba, disclosed this during the inter-ministerial press briefing held in Birnin Kebbi.
She presented a detailed scorecard of the ministry, highlighting key milestones recorded within the first three years of Governor Nasir Idris’ administration.

According to the commissioner, the ministry has continued to formulate policies and implement programmes aimed at protecting women, children and other vulnerable groups across the state.
Hassan-Kamba described the present administration as gender-friendly and committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of women and children.
She said the state government has empowered women and youths through various skills acquisition and vocational training programmes designed to promote self-reliance and improve economic productivity.

The commissioner said the wives of Governor Nasir Idris have also played an active role in supporting empowerment initiatives for women and youths, complementing government efforts to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development.
She added that the ministry has facilitated support programmes for overgrown orphans by providing cash grants and livelihood materials to help them establish small businesses and become productive members of society.
According to her, these interventions are part of the government’s broader commitment to strengthening social welfare and ensuring that vulnerable residents receive the support they need.

Hassan-Kamba reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to advancing policies and programmes that protect children, empower women and improve the welfare of vulnerable groups across Kebbi State.
