The Bureau News Reports Call for Greater Autonomy for Nurses
The guest speaker, Nurse Attah Babangida Kashim of the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, delivered a lecture on the theme: “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
Kashim called on the Federal Government to formulate policies that would grant nurses greater professional autonomy and stronger representation in healthcare policy decisions.
“We are advocating for autonomy and representation in policy formulation that affects nurses. We also need to be empowered to enable us discharge our responsibilities effectively,” he said.
He noted that nurses account for about 80 percent of the healthcare workforce and should be given the enabling environment needed to maximise their contribution.

The celebration featured debates, cultural dance competitions and the launch of a poem dedicated to the Kebbi NANNM chairman.
