By Aliyu Usman, Birnin Kebbi
The The Bureau News reports that a multi-stakeholder committee established by Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has intensified consultations aimed at addressing the persistent challenge of epileptic power supply across the state.
According to findings gathered by The Bureau News, the committee is engaging key stakeholders, including officials of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), civil society organisations, energy professionals, and members of the public, to develop sustainable solutions for steady electricity supply.
Kebbi Power Committee Engages Key Stakeholders
Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi after a strategic meeting, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Usman Gwandu, disclosed that discussions are ongoing with top officials of KEDCO to establish a workable framework that will benefit both the electricity provider and consumers.
He explained that the committee’s objective is to ensure that residents receive value for their electricity payments while also encouraging customers to meet their financial obligations to the distribution company.
“We are working towards a common ground where consumers will enjoy improved electricity supply while also ensuring that customers do not default in payment of their bills,” Gwandu stated.
Sub-Committees Created to Fast-Track Solutions
As part of efforts to accelerate progress, the committee has constituted sub-committees made up of energy experts and civil society representatives.
Gwandu noted that the move is necessary due to the limited timeframe given to the committee to deliver its findings and recommendations.
“We have just two weeks to submit our report to the Kebbi State Government. Due to time constraints, we created sub-committees to speed up our work and ensure that power supply improves within a short period,” he said.
Interim Report Expected Soon
The committee is expected to submit an interim report to the Kebbi State Government in the coming week, outlining key findings and actionable recommendations based on engagements with stakeholders.
Residents have continued to express concern over unstable electricity supply, which has negatively impacted businesses, households, and economic activities across the state.
Governor Idris Commended for Intervention
The committee chairman commended Governor Nasir Idris for setting up the initiative, describing it as a proactive step driven by the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens and boosting economic growth.
Observers say the outcome of the committee’s work could play a critical role in addressing long-standing electricity challenges in Kebbi State, as stakeholders await concrete improvements in power supply.
The Bureau News will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as efforts to stabilise electricity supply in Kebbi State progress.
