Gov. Idris Commends Tinubu Over 1,006KM Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway Project

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing construction of the 1,006-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway project.
Governor Idris, represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, gave the commendation while hosting a high-powered presidential media delegation at the project site in Kebbi State.
He said the project deserved recognition because the highway was first conceived during the administration of former President Shehu Shagari but remained unimplemented for decades until the current administration revived and redesigned it.
Road Project Will Boost Nigeria’s Economy — Idris
The Kebbi governor noted that the highway, when completed, would significantly improve economic activities and transportation across the country.
According to him, transportation and development are closely linked, stressing that sustainable national development cannot be achieved without an efficient transport system.
“The project, when completed, will significantly enhance the nation’s economy. Transportation and development are inter-related, and sustainable development cannot be achieved without an efficient transport network,” the governor stated.
Governor Idris also reassured contractors and stakeholders of adequate security throughout the execution of the project.
He explained that the Kebbi State Government is working closely with security agencies to ensure peaceful coexistence and a safe working environment for workers handling the project.
Presidential Delegation Expresses Satisfaction
Speaking during the inspection, the leader of the presidential media delegation, Mr. Sunday Dare, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the highway project and other federal government initiatives.
He said the project reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to carrying all parts of Nigeria along in the execution of critical infrastructure projects.
“The ongoing projects demonstrate that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to inclusive development across the country,” Dare said.
Kebbi Accounts For 258KM Of Highway
Earlier, the representative of the Kebbi State Controller for the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr. Malami Aliyu, disclosed that Kebbi State accounts for 258 kilometres of the 1,006KM Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway.
According to him, 88 kilometres of the road have already been cleared, while 19 kilometres have been completed.
He further revealed that 6.3 kilometres of the completed section have been installed with solar-powered street lights.
Aliyu added that there had been no security challenges affecting the project within Kebbi State and commended the state government for its support toward the successful implementation of the road project.
Delegation Inspects Other Federal Projects
As part of the visit, the Deputy Governor also led the delegation to inspect the ongoing Natsini–Bui–Kangiwa Federal Road project and the Mega School project in Argungu.
The Bureau News reports that the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway is among the flagship infrastructure projects of the Federal Government aimed at boosting connectivity, trade, and economic development across Nigeria.
