Kebbi Governor Idris Mourns 10 Security Personnel Killed by Bandits in Shanga | Nigeria News Today

Birnin Kebbi — The Bureau News reports that Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has mourned the death of 10 security personnel and one civilian killed during a deadly bandit ambush in Shanga Local Government Area of the state.

The governor visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Birnin Kebbi, where the remains of the fallen officers were deposited following the attack at Giron Masa village.
He was received by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Ashiru Ladan, who led him to the mortuary where the corpses of the deceased personnel were kept.
Governor Idris also visited two injured security operatives currently receiving treatment at the facility.
Describing the incident as tragic and painful, the governor said the fallen officers paid the ultimate price while defending innocent citizens.
“This is a great loss not only to the security agencies but to the entire people of Kebbi State,” he said.
The Bureau News: Bandits Ambush Security Team in Shanga
The attack occurred when security personnel responded to intelligence reports of an impending bandit attack on a community in the area.
However, the operatives were reportedly lured into a deadly ambush by the criminals.
The casualties included nine soldiers, one Mobile Police (MOPOL) officer, and a civilian.
Governor Inspects Scene, Pledges Support
Governor Idris later proceeded to Giron Masa village, where he inspected a destroyed military vehicle attacked during the incident.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies and ensuring improved safety across the state.
The governor also directed the hospital to provide the best possible care for the injured officers, assuring that the state government would fully cover their medical expenses.
He further pledged support for the families of the deceased personnel.
Security Concerns and Next Steps
Governor Idris disclosed plans to visit Abuja to meet with the Chief of Army Staff to formally convey condolences and discuss security reinforcement strategies.
He also promised to replace the destroyed military vehicle and urged security operatives not to be discouraged.
“They must remain resolute and committed to their duty of protecting lives and property,” he added.

The Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi, who received the governor at the scene, emphasized the need for improved intelligence gathering and the deployment of modern technology such as drones to enhance security operations.
He commended the governor for his swift response and concern, while calling for sustained efforts to tackle insecurity in the region.
