United States President, Donald Trump, has declared himself the “Acting President of Venezuela” in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump made the claim on Sunday by sharing an image styled like a Wikipedia profile, which listed him as both the 45th and 47th President of the United States and the “Acting President of Venezuela”, “Incumbent January 2026.”
The image also featured his official portrait and the name of his U.S. vice president, JD Vance.
The declaration followed earlier remarks by Trump in which he said the United States would “run Venezuela until a safe, proper and judicious transition” can occur, positioning Washington as a central actor in the country’s interim governance.
Trump has presented the move as an effort to protect Venezuela’s stability and manage its oil resources in a way that benefits both Venezuelans and Americans.
He has also outlined plans to import between 30 and 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil for sale on the global market under U.S. control.
The post comes amid broader foreign policy statements, including an ultimatum to Cuba to negotiate with the United States or face the loss of Venezuelan oil supplies, which remain a vital source of support for Havana.
