China Warns Against Any Nation Acting as “World’s Judge” Amid Venezuela Crisis

Nigeria News Today: China has expressed strong opposition to any country acting as the “world’s judge” in the wake of the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the United States.
The statement was made by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, in Beijing on Sunday, as he referred to what he described as “sudden developments in Venezuela.”
“We have never believed that any country can act as the world’s police, nor do we accept that any nation can claim to be the world’s judge,” Wang said, emphasizing China’s stance on national sovereignty.
He further stressed the importance of international law and the protection of sovereignty for all nations.
“The sovereignty and security of all countries should be fully protected under international law,” Wang added, marking his first public comments since images of the 63-year-old Maduro blindfolded and handcuffed circulated on Saturday.
Maduro is currently being held at a detention centre in New York and is awaiting a court appearance on Monday on drug-related charges. The Chinese position signals Beijing’s continued insistence on respecting international norms and its disapproval of unilateral actions by other nations.
Observers note that China’s comments come at a critical moment in the unfolding geopolitical tensions surrounding Venezuela, reflecting its broader policy of non-interference and support for sovereignty in international affairs.
