According to information obtained by The Bureau News, the abduction took place on January 1, 2026, around Kotokerefe, a community along the Abuja–Lokoja highway, an area increasingly notorious for violent attacks and kidnappings.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the terrorists intercepted the vehicle conveying the couple and their companion, forcing them to stop.

During the attack, the newly married man was seized and taken away by the assailants, while his wife and friend reportedly managed to escape and later raised the alarm.

The victim was said to have wedded on December 29, 2025, and was heading to Abuja with his wife shortly after the ceremony when the incident occurred.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the police or other security agencies regarding the abduction. It also remains unclear whether the kidnappers have contacted the victim’s family to demand a ransom.

The incident comes amid rising insecurity in Kogi State and along major highways connecting the North-Central region.

Earlier, The Bureau News reported that terrorists attacked Idofin community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and leaving another injured.

That attack reportedly occurred between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

The deceased was identified as a Tiv man, while another indigene of the community sustained serious injuries during the assault.

Residents across affected communities have continued to express fear over repeated attacks, calling on the Kogi State Government and security agencies to intensify patrols and secure major highways.
