Dangote Refinery Reorganises Workforce Over Sabotage, Denies Mass Sack

The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has initiated a significant reorganisation of its operations and workforce in response to repeated sabotage incidents that have raised safety concerns at the facility. The refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, stated that these measures are necessary to protect operational safety.

In a letter dated September 24, 2025, signed by Chief General Manager Femi Adekunle, the refinery announced a total reorganisation, directing affected staff to hand over company property and await clearance before receiving their entitlements.

A senior official clarified that this is not a mass sack but rather a reorganisation aimed at addressing internal sabotage issues. They emphasized that the decision was made swiftly to prevent involved parties from concealing their actions.

The official assured that operations at the refinery are ongoing, with both Nigerian and expatriate staff still working at the plant. The letter informed affected employees that their services were no longer required as of September 25, but it did not constitute a permanent dismissal.

The refinery has faced operational challenges since its launch in 2024 and has been involved in disputes with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers over labor practices and safety standards.
