Nigerian social media personality SARKI, popularly known online as Wasppaping, has been released after an interaction with relevant security agencies, during which he reflected on some of his past social media posts.
In a statement issued following his release, SARKI acknowledged that the tone of some of his previous tweets may have appeared stronger than intended. He explained that the comments were made within the context of online political commentary and were not meant to express hostility toward any country or its citizens.
“I have reflected on some of my past tweets and recognize that the tone may have come across stronger than intended,” he said.
SARKI also expressed respect for the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the United States, as well as other friendly nations, noting the contributions of Nigerians living and working abroad.
“I deeply respect the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United States, as well as other friendly nations, and the many Nigerians who live, work, and thrive in those countries,” he added.
He stated that where his comments were misunderstood or caused offense, he sincerely regrets the outcome. Describing himself as a patriot, SARKI said he remains committed to promoting peace, mutual respect, and national security while continuing to advocate for a better future for Nigerians.
The social media figure also expressed appreciation to supporters who stood by him during what he described as his first encounter with security authorities.
“I appreciate all the well-meaning Nigerians and friends who have stood by me during this phase,” he said, while commending the professionalism of security personnel involved and the respect shown to him during the process.
Details surrounding the circumstances that led to his interaction with the security agencies were not disclosed in the statement. However, SARKI noted that the experience has given him an opportunity to reflect on his public communication online.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to constructive engagement and national unity.
