The government views the $20 billion facility as a national asset that must be protected.

The Federal Government, including Vice President Shettima and Minister of Budget and National Planning Senator Bagudu, has stressed the critical importance of the Dangote Refinery for Nigeria. They view the refinery as a national asset that must be supported to ensure its success.
