The Muslim Community of Lagos State (MCLS) has announced it will not support any political party that presents a non-Muslim candidate for the governorship election scheduled for 2027.

The group made its position known during its maiden General Assembly held on Saturday at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque Hall in Alausa, Ikeja. According to the organisation, the decision was reached in response to what it described as the continued marginalisation of Muslims in political appointments and governance in the state.

Members of the community expressed particular concern over what they said was the exclusion of Muslims from key sectors, especially education. They called on the state government to address the issue by recruiting more Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers into public schools.

In a resolution adopted at the meeting, the Assembly stated that Muslim voters would only support a governorship candidate who reflects their values and interests.

“We cannot continue to be sidelined in our own state,” the group said in a communiqué issued after the meeting. “The Muslim community will only support a candidate who represents our values and interests.”
