Security Fear: Obaro of Kabba and CAN Suspend All Church Activities After Kogi Attacks

The Obaro of Kabba and Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Traditional Council, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, in conjunction with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has ordered the immediate suspension of all church activities in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State due to rising security threats.
The directive follows recent deadly attacks and abductions in parts of Kogi State, which have triggered widespread fear among residents and worship communities.
A formal notice issued by Reverend Kayode Osatuyi, Coordinator of CAN in Kabba/Bunu LGA, explained that the decision was reached after a high-level security meeting held at the palace of the Obaro of Kabba, involving traditional rulers, church leaders, and security stakeholders.
According to the notice, credible intelligence indicated possible targeted attacks on churches, prompting the urgent safety measure.
The statement reads in part:
“Following the directive from the Obaro of Kabba and Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Traditional Council, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, at the meeting held with traditional rulers and church leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria Kabba/Bunu LGA at his palace, he directed the closure of all church services until further notice upon a credible security report on an attack by the bandits on our churches.”
Residents say the decision, though tough, is seen as a proactive step to protect lives while relevant authorities strengthen security surveillance across vulnerable communities.
Security agencies have yet to issue a formal public statement, but stakeholders are urging government authorities at state and federal levels to intensify intelligence gathering, increase patrols, and reassure citizens of safety.
The Bureau News will continue to monitor developments and provide verified updates as the situation unfolds.
