Multiple journalists reporting from Morocco, including sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, revealed that the players are insisting on the settlement of their entitlements before taking part in the fixture.

A BBC journalist, Olúwashínà Okeleji, also confirmed the situation, disclosing that players and officials were still waiting for payments.

“Players and coaching staff of #Nigeria are waiting on #AFCON2025 bonus payments,” Okeleji wrote.

He added, “Win bonuses from four matches – VS Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda & Mozambique – have yet to be received.”

According to him, the team remains committed to the competition but has drawn a clear line over the unpaid bonuses.

“Squad remain focus but will NOT train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if this isn’t resolved,” he stated.

As of the time of filing this report, all attempts by SaharaReporters to obtain a reaction from the NFF proved unsuccessful. Calls and WhatsApp messages sent to the NFF’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, went unanswered.

In November, the team also threatened to boycott their World Cup qualifier against Gabon, citing unpaid entitlements from the Nigerian authorities.

Nigerian sports journalist, Pooja, who was with the team in Morocco, confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “BREAKING NEWS: Super Eagles players & officials boycott training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments.”

“This is really sad,” he added.
