The remains of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, known affectionately as “Sommie,” a staff member of Arise Television, will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Sommie tragically died after reportedly jumping from a three-storey building in Unique Estate, Katampe, Abuja, during an armed robbery incident.

According to a statement from her family, the funeral service will take place at Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Agulu, Anambra State. A service of songs is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Corpus Christi Cathedral on Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt.

Sommie, a UK-trained journalist and lawyer, returned to Nigeria after two years abroad with aspirations to engage in politics and promote women’s advancement. Her family shared that she was a former first runner-up in the Miss Tourism Nigeria pageant and was dedicated to making a positive impact in her home country.
