The Kebbi State Government has launched 50 new 18-seater buses to boost mass transit and reduce transportation challenges across the state.

Speaking during the commissioning, Bawa said the initiative was designed to ease the transportation burden on residents, particularly for long-distance travel.

He noted that Kebbi had previously lacked a structured mass transit system compared to other states in the North-West region.

The commissioner commended Governor Nasir Idris for the intervention, describing it as a major step toward improving mobility and economic activities in the state.

Drivers Urged to Maintain Safety Standards

Bawa urged beneficiaries and drivers to make proper use of the buses, stressing the importance of professionalism and strict adherence to road safety regulations.

He cautioned against overloading, reckless driving, and excessive speeding, while also emphasizing the need for regular maintenance of the vehicles.

Stakeholders Applaud Kebbi Government

In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Association of Transport Owners (NATO), Kebbi State chapter, Alhaji Ali Aliyu, praised the state government for the initiative.

He said the introduction of the buses would significantly improve transportation within and outside Kebbi State.

Also speaking, the Deputy Corps Commandant (Operations) of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kebbi State, DCC Musa Danladi, disclosed that the drivers were carefully screened and trained before being assigned the vehicles.

According to him, the drivers have been adequately sensitised on traffic rules and regulations to ensure passenger safety at all times.

The Bureau News gathered that the initiative is part of broader efforts by the Kebbi State Government to enhance public infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents.
