The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUSTA), Aliero branch, has raised concerns over unresolved welfare issues, warning that it may embark on industrial action if urgent steps are not taken.
The union called on the Kebbi State Government and the university management to address its demands to avert disruption of academic activities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the branch chairman, Comrade Dr. Musa Isah Fakai, alongside the union’s secretary, said several agreements reached between the Federal Government and ASUU remain unimplemented.
Unpaid Allowances, Promotions Top Concerns
According to the union, key issues include non-payment of academic earned allowances and wage awards, as well as the failure to implement staff promotions and settle outstanding arrears spanning over nine years.
The statement further highlighted that annual salary increments have not been implemented for seven years, covering the period from 2020 to 2026.
“We have engaged the university management repeatedly without positive response. We also notified the Ministry for Higher Education, but there has been no meaningful action,” Fakai stated.
Union Signals Possible Industrial Action
The union noted that all available channels for dialogue have been exhausted, warning that members may be forced to down tools if the situation persists.
It, however, expressed confidence in the leadership of Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, stating that the issues might not have been brought to his direct attention.
ASUU urged the state government to intervene promptly to prevent a looming strike that could disrupt academic activities at the institution. The Bureau Newspaper
