Governor Idris Expresses Concern Over AFUST Crisis

The Governor expressed deep concern over the prolonged conflicts between the University Management and the Governing Council, noting that previous efforts by the Ministry of Higher Education to resolve the disputes had failed to yield meaningful results.

According to him, the persistent crisis has significantly disrupted academic and administrative activities within the institution, undermining its status as a centre of academic excellence.

Governor Idris disclosed that at a point, the situation became so critical that he considered dissolving the Governing Council and disengaging members of the University Management, including the Vice-Chancellor.

He also criticised the trend of individuals submitting petitions to anti-graft agencies without notifying the state government, describing the practice as counterproductive to institutional stability.

Mandate of the Visitation Panel

The Governor stated that members of the Visitation Panel were carefully selected based on their professional integrity and track record, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver a credible and objective report.

He directed the University Management to cooperate fully with the panel by providing all requested documentation, including financial records. He warned that failure to comply would attract serious consequences.

The Secretary to the State Government was also instructed to provide all necessary logistics to ensure the smooth execution of the panel’s assignment.

Panel Chairman Assures Diligent Investigation

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman of the Visitation Panel, Professor Muhammad Abubakar Ka’oje, assured the Governor of the panel’s commitment to carrying out its assignment with diligence, professionalism, and courage.

He pledged that the committee would recommend practical and sustainable solutions aimed at restoring stability and strengthening AFUST as a citadel of learning.

The development remains a key Kogi State News and national education story monitored by The Bureau News, as stakeholders await the outcome of the investigation.

The Bureau News will continue to provide updates on the panel’s findings and government actions regarding the future of AFUST.
