NSCDC, Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre to Strengthen Air-Ground Synergy in Kebbi

By Abdullahi Tukur, Birnin Kebbi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kebbi State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to deeper inter-agency collaboration as it received the Commandant of the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC), Air Vice Marshal Garba Ibrahim Jibiya, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening air-ground operational synergy.

The visit, which took place on Monday at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, forms part of the core mandate of the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre to enhance effective integration between air, land, and maritime forces during joint security operations across Nigeria.

Speaking during the visit, Air Vice Marshal Garba Ibrahim Jibiya stressed the importance of sustained cooperation between the Nigerian Air Force and ground-based security agencies, noting that effective air support remains a critical factor in the success of ground operations.

“Synergy between air and ground forces is no longer optional. It is a strategic necessity for effective operations, particularly in the face of evolving security threats,” Air Vice Marshal Jibiya said.

He explained that the AWDC is currently assessing existing operational gaps and constraints affecting air-ground collaboration, with a view to developing frameworks that would enhance nationwide operational effectiveness.

Also speaking, Wing Commander Getso disclosed that the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre plans to roll out capacity-building and training programmes for relevant stakeholders, especially in the areas of communication, intelligence sharing, and strategic coordination.

“Our goal is to strengthen joint operational outcomes through improved communication architecture and shared tactical understanding among agencies,” Wing Commander Getso stated.

Responding, the Kebbi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Kabir Abubakar Alkamawa, welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit, assuring the AWDC of the Command’s maximum cooperation and institutional support.

“The Civil Defence remains committed to sustaining and strengthening synergy with the Armed Forces. As a younger partner, we will continue to align our operations with the military in the collective pursuit of national security,” Commandant Alkamawa said.

He further described the visit as timely, given the prevailing security challenges across parts of the country, noting that improved air-ground coordination would significantly enhance operational responses in Kebbi State.

The visit underscores the shared resolve of Nigeria’s security agencies to deepen collaboration, build operational capacity, and ensure seamless integration of air and ground assets in safeguarding lives, infrastructure, and critical national assets.

Air Vice Marshal Jibiya was accompanied by Group Captain H. N. Gummit, Wing Commander Getso, Squadron Leader M. Ismail, Flight Lieutenant P. P. Kasimu, Flight Lieutenant Y. U. Aminu, and other senior officers.
