Kebbi Government Approves ₦650m for Procurement and Installation of 15MVA Power Transformer

By Enemona Samuel Endurance | The Bureau News

Nigeria News Today: The Kebbi State Government has approved the sum of ₦650 million for the procurement and installation of a 15MVA power transformer as part of efforts to improve electricity supply across the state.

The approval was disclosed on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, during a press briefing at his office in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the SSG, the intervention is aimed at easing the hardship faced by residents due to persistent and epileptic power supply, which has continued to affect economic and social activities in the state.

He explained that while electricity distribution is statutorily the responsibility of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), the Kebbi State Government considered it necessary to intervene in the interest of the people.

“While power distribution falls within the purview of KAEDCO, the Kebbi State Government finds it expedient to step in to reduce the suffering of residents caused by frequent power outages,” Tafida said.

The SSG further revealed that the ₦650 million approval is not the only support being provided by the state government to the electricity distribution company.

He disclosed that the Kebbi State Government also provides a monthly financial intervention of ₦150 million to KAEDCO to enhance service delivery and promote a more sustainable power supply across the state.

Tafida called on residents to cooperate with both the state government and KAEDCO by ensuring prompt payment of electricity bills, noting that such cooperation is essential for maintaining improved electricity services.

He stressed that the government remains committed to implementing policies and interventions that directly impact the welfare of the people, particularly in critical sectors such as power and infrastructure.

As reported by The Bureau News, the transformer project is expected to significantly strengthen electricity distribution capacity and support economic activities in Kebbi State.

Similar power sector interventions by state governments have also been highlighted in national energy reports by platforms such as Reuters and BBC, reflecting broader efforts to address electricity challenges across Nigeria.
