Military sources have confirmed that “Kalamu,” one of Nigeria’s most wanted terror commanders and a notorious kidnapping kingpin, was killed on Monday during a Special Forces raid carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto State.

The development triggered widespread celebrations across Sabon Birni Local Government Area as residents expressed relief after years of repeated attacks, abductions, and extortion linked to the eliminated kingpin.

Villagers Celebrate After Confirmation of Kalamu’s Death

Residents flooded the streets shortly after confirmation and images of Kalamu’s death circulated across communities. Many described the news as “a major breakthrough” for long-suffering villages repeatedly terrorized by his gang.

Kalamu had been linked to multiple kidnapping-for-ransom operations in the region before meeting his end on Monday.

Troops Foil Planned Attack on Tara Village

According to military intelligence obtained by The Bureau News, Special Forces stormed a bandits’ hideout in Kurawa Village in the early hours of Monday, 8 December 2025, after receiving information that Kalamu’s men were preparing an attack on Tara Village.

The ambush triggered a heavy gun duel, during which troops neutralized 11 terrorists. Blood trails at the scene suggested that several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Weapons Recovered During Operation

Recovered items include:

  • 8 AK-47 rifles
  • 5 additional magazines
  • 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition

The Army described the success as part of efforts to deny criminal elements and non-state actors any freedom of action in Sokoto State and the wider North-West.

Residents Call for Sustained Security Measures

Security analysts say the elimination of Kalamu represents a major win in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts. Residents, while celebrating, urged the military to maintain strong surveillance to avoid possible retaliatory strikes.
