BIRNIN KEBBI — The Kebbi State Government will host a high-level security summit aimed at finding lasting solutions to the rising insecurity across northern Nigeria, The Bureau News reports.

The summit, convened by the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum and supported by the Kebbi State Government, will bring together top-tier security experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from Sokoto, Kaduna, and Zamfara states to brainstorm on workable strategies to curb banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes threatening peace and development in the region.

Summit to Produce Actionable Security Blueprint

According to a statement issued by Alhaji Abdullahi Yelwa Ajiyan Yauri, the forum’s chairman, the summit scheduled for February 10, 2025, will not be “a mere talk-shop” but a platform for concrete, actionable recommendations to tackle insecurity in the North.

“Our summit is not just another gathering of experts,” Yauri said. “It is designed to produce implementable security frameworks and a long-term roadmap to restore peace and confidence across the northern states.”

He explained that the forum is alarmed by the persistent rise in kidnappings for ransom, rural banditry, and the needless killings of innocent citizens, stressing that the situation demands immediate, collaborative intervention.

Over 170 Experts to Participate

Yauri revealed that no fewer than 170 experts drawn from security, academia, traditional institutions, and civil society will participate in the summit. He noted that the gathering will go beyond speeches, producing a communique that will guide governments and security agencies in addressing the crisis sustainably.

“The security situation in northern Nigeria has reached an alarming level, and it is imperative to chart a practical course toward peace. Our goal is to bring together bright minds who will design lasting solutions that can be adopted by governments at all levels,” he added.

Governors, Security Chiefs, and Scholars Expected

The upcoming security dialogue is expected to attract the presence of northern governors, heads of security agencies, and university scholars with expertise in counter-terrorism and peace-building initiatives.

Observers say the Kebbi summit could become a turning point in redefining Nigeria’s approach to tackling insecurity through collaboration between government, media, and the public.
