Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has refuted allegations from the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he is shielding the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Omoyele, who is sought by police regarding the recent killings in the Akinlalu community. The APC has accused Adeleke of harboring Omoyele to evade arrest, describing this as “condemnable, irresponsible, wicked, and unpatriotic.”

The opposition party has challenged Adeleke to demonstrate his commitment to justice by assisting police in their investigation and ensuring the Amotekun commander’s surrender. They expressed concerns that if Omoyele is indeed hiding in the Government House, it undermines Adeleke’s stated belief in the rule of law.

In response, Governor Adeleke, through spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, dismissed these allegations as baseless, attributing them to a “losing party struggling for relevance.” He emphasized that his administration supports a thorough police investigation into the Akinlalu incident and will not interfere with the legal process.

The Akinlalu community was rocked by violence on September 30, 2025, when Amotekun operatives reportedly invaded the area, resulting in the deaths of three residents. The incident has drawn public condemnation and led to calls for accountability from civil society groups.

Following the attack, the Inspector-General of Police ordered a special team to investigate, which has already arrested five Amotekun operatives involved. Despite this, Commander Omoyele has reportedly failed to respond to police invitations for questioning regarding his role in the operation.

As tensions rise between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC, both parties continue to blame each other for the tragic events in Akinlalu, highlighting the ongoing political strife in the state.
