Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia State, has downplayed the political relevance of Peter Obi, stating that he is currently the most significant politician in the South-East region. Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, declared his focus on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and expressed disinterest in discussing Obi.
In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Kalu made it clear that he prefers to focus on his party rather than engage in discussions about Obi. He stated, “I don’t want to discuss Peter Obi for any reason. You can ask me about the leader of my party, I will answer you.”
Kalu indicated a willingness to engage in a public debate with Obi, suggesting that if a forum were arranged, he would be open to discussing their political differences. He asserted, “Any day you want me to discuss Peter Obi, give us two hours, put him there and put me here, and we will be able to sort it out.”
Dismissing claims that Obi is the political leader of the South-East, Kalu confidently proclaimed himself as the region’s most influential politician. He referenced his past political achievements, including the 4.9 million votes he garnered in the 2007 presidential election as the candidate for the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), to reinforce his position.
Kalu emphasized his extensive political track record and experience, claiming that his accomplishments make him a major figure in South-East politics, contrasting this with Obi, who was the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election.
