A tragic incident occurred under the Mabushi Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of a man, his wife, and their son due to a violent encounter with touts, commonly known as ‘Agberos.’

Eyewitnesses reported that the family was driving a Toyota Highlander after purchasing a new refrigerator when they were pursued by three touts from the Berger area. The touts allegedly forced their way into the vehicle, struggling for control of the steering wheel with the driver. In the ensuing chaos, the car crashed into a pillar under the bridge and fell into a drainage, killing all three occupants instantly.

A nearby taxi was also damaged in the incident. The aftermath provoked outrage among passersby, leading to the lynching of one of the touts. Police from the Mabushi Division intervened, rescuing two of the suspects, who were severely injured and taken to the National Hospital. The bodies of the deceased family have been taken to the mortuary.

Conflicting reports arose about whether a child was among the casualties, but multiple witnesses confirmed the presence of a boy in the vehicle. A resident expressed frustration, stating that citizens are tired of the presence of touts and calling for their removal from society.

As of now, there has been no official comment from the police regarding the incident, which occurred shortly before 1:00 PM on Wednesday.
