A yet-to-be-ascertained number of soldiers have reportedly been killed following a Boko Haram attack on the base of the 152 TF Battalion in Banki town, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, which occurred on Thursday midnight. The terrorists dislodged the troops, leading to significant chaos.

During the attack, the gunmen set fire to armored tanks and military vehicles, making off with an unquantified amount of ammunition. Sources indicate that surviving soldiers from the battalion have fled into Cameroon for safety.

One source stated, “Yesterday, the 152 TF Battalion close to Banki town was dislodged by Boko Haram terrorists. They were in control of the base for several hours, stealing military equipment and ammunition. As we speak, casualties are still unknown.” Another source added, “Yes, the 152 Battalion was attacked. Many of our men are still missing.”

The military has long claimed that the terrorists have been largely defeated, often downplaying losses. However, Boko Haram has caused over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions, primarily in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states. Nigerian soldiers have frequently complained about inadequate weaponry and have accused their superiors of exposing them to better-armed insurgents.

This incident underscores the ongoing struggle Nigeria faces against insurgency in the northeastern region, a conflict that has persisted for nearly two decades.
