The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has redeployed the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, due to increasing insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This decision follows significant pressure on Adewale to enhance security measures after he took over from the previous Commissioner, Benneth Igwe.

Recent incidents, particularly the violent armed robbery that resulted in the deaths of ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, known as Sommie, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, have heightened concerns regarding safety in Abuja. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of September 29, 2025, at Sommie’s residence in the Katampe district.

In light of these developments, Commissioner Miller Gajere Dantawaye has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for the FCT. Additionally, Deputy Commissioner Wilson Aniefiok Akpan has been reassigned to Kogi State.

An internal memo from Force Headquarters indicated that these provisional postings are pending final approval by the Police Service Commission, as required by law. This message has been circulated across all zonal and state commands of the Nigeria Police Force.
