Peterside Idah, the Super Eagles’ former media officer, has alleged that Eric Chelle is planning to step down as head coach after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to Idah, Tunisia has promised Chelle a monthly salary of $100,000.

The Super Eagles’ final match at the AFCON is a third-place playoff versus Egypt on Saturday.

Idah believes that apart from the financial package, Tunisia’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup could also be tempting for Chelle.

He told Channels TV: “I hear he wants to go to Tunisia.

“They have offered him a $100,000 per month. Not just that, he will make a name and that name is being a coach of a World Cup side.”

In a related development, Galatasaray top striker, Victor Osimhen, has left the camp of the Super Eagles camp in Morocco ahead of the third place match against Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday.

This is coming after Nigeria lost the semi-final match of the 2025 AFCON to the host of the tournament, Morocco.

In the match played on Wednesday, the Atlas Lions defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the match did not produce a single goal in regulation and extra times.

According to camp sources, Osimhen left Morocco on Thursday for Turkey to get treatment for the injury he sustained in the semi-final clash.

He was replaced towards the end of the match in which he served as stand-in captain following the one match suspension of Wilfred Ndidi.

It has become a standard procedure for clubs to treat their injured players who are on assignments for their countries.

A camp source said: “Since he is injured, and won’t definitely feature in the third place match, he decided to return early to treat the injury. Read more
