The maiden African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit will commence in Abuja on Monday, with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

The three-day gathering, to be officially opened by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will draw defence chiefs and security experts from across the continent to discuss pressing issues of security and stability in Africa.

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, will deliver the welcome address, followed by remarks from African Union Chairperson Mohamoud Ali Youssoufà and ECOWAS Commission President Dr. Omar Alieu Touray.

A key highlight of the opening day will be the first plenary session led by Kenyan lawyer and activist Prof. PLO Lumumba, focusing on “Border Management and Regional Security: Challenges and Perspectives.”

The summit seeks to strengthen continental cooperation, tackle shared security challenges, and develop practical frameworks for improved border management and regional stability.
