Ex-Soldiers Resume Protest Over Unpaid Benefits

A group of discharged Nigerian soldiers has resumed protests in Abuja, demanding the payment of their entitlements. The ex-soldiers had previously called off their protest on August 4 after meeting with officials from the Ministries of Defence and Finance, who assured them that outstanding payments would be made by August 10.

On Thursday, the ex-servicemen gathered at the Ministry of Finance headquarters, expressing frustration over the authorities’ neglect and failure to fulfill their promises. One protester, known as Mama G, stated that they had no choice but to return to the streets after previous assurances went unfulfilled, declaring that this protest would be more significant.

This is not the first time the group has demonstrated; retired soldiers have repeatedly protested in Abuja and other cities over what they describe as unfair treatment and neglect. As of now, the Ministry of Defence, Defence Headquarters, and Military Pension Board have not issued an official response regarding the protests.
