Senate Unseals Natasha’s Office, Grants Her Access to NASS Premises

The Senate has unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, allowing her access to the National Assembly (NASS) premises. This development indicates a potential resolution to her ongoing conflict with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, had been suspended for six months over alleged misconduct related to a protest against her seat reassignment. Following the end of her suspension in September 2025, she faced legal hurdles preventing her return to her legislative duties.

The unsealing of her office is seen as a move to ensure her presence in the chamber when the Senate resumes on October 7, 2025. Reports suggest a motion will be introduced by Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro for her to offer an apology, which will be seconded and voted upon.

After her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan sought legal recourse, arguing that the Senate’s actions were unconstitutional. In July, Federal High Court Judge Binta Nyako deemed the suspension excessive and unconstitutional, ordering her recall. Despite this, she was initially denied access upon attempting to return.

The Senate’s leadership previously maintained that her suspension was justified and unrelated to any allegations beyond procedural breaches.

In her lawyer’s recent correspondence, an ultimatum was issued to the Clerk of the National Assembly, warning of potential legal repercussions if Akpoti-Uduaghan was not allowed to resume her duties. The Clerk responded by urging patience and reaffirming the Senate’s authority over such matters.
