In a tragic incident, at least nine people have been confirmed dead following a coordinated armed attack on Nindama village in the Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers struck in the early hours of Friday, October 10, around 3:30 a.m., firing indiscriminately and leaving several residents dead.
Among the victims, eight were gruesomely slaughtered, while six others remain unaccounted for. Two additional individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Security forces, including the army, police, and local vigilante groups, are actively working to rescue the missing persons and apprehend the attackers. The Executive Chairman of Kokona LGA, Hon. Agbawu M. Agbawu, led a combined security team to the village later that day. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to a mortuary, and preliminary investigations suggest the attack may be linked to an ongoing land dispute in the region.
As the situation unfolds, residents are on high alert due to fears of possible reprisal attacks. In a related incident, the Tiv Youth Organisation condemned the brutal murder of Miss Favour Akaaza from the Imon community, who was abducted and later killed by suspected armed Fulani men, who have since been arrested and confessed to the crime. The organization labeled the act as “barbaric” and a direct threat to community peace and security.
