A pro-President Bola Tinubu group, the Progressive Network for Tinubu (PNT), has declared that President Tinubu faces no serious opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election. During a recent event in Ondo State, the group warned former President Goodluck Jonathan against entering the race, suggesting it would lead to “embarrassment.”

This warning follows reports that Jonathan is considering running for the presidency again under an undisclosed political party. In response, a legal practitioner filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent Jonathan from contesting the election.

PNT Director-General Mr. Olumide Obadele stated that Jonathan should maintain his reputation as a statesman by not participating in the election. He claimed that opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), are “on life support” and unable to defeat Tinubu.

Obadele asserted that constitutional and legal constraints make Jonathan’s candidacy nearly impossible, declaring the 2027 election a “done deal” for the APC. He emphasized the need for increased grassroots participation to combat voter apathy in Ondo State, where only 28% of registered voters participated in the last elections.

Meanwhile, civil society organizations in Delta State condemned the lawsuit against Jonathan, labeling it politically motivated and an abuse of judicial process. They called for its dismissal, arguing that it undermines democratic principles by attempting to preemptively exclude a citizen’s right to participate in elections.
