Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Bureau News | Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has come down hard on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over recent comments made during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, had claimed that he came from a wealthy background and was privileged enough to attend school in his personal car—unlike his former boss and political mentor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Wike also alleged that Amaechi’s wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, received ₦4 million monthly from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to train women, further vowing to resign if the ongoing forensic audit of the Commission failed to indict her.
Eze Fires Back: “Wike Is Living in Denial”
Reacting to Wike’s remarks, Chief Eze, a well-known ally of Amaechi, described the FCT Minister’s claims as “self-ridiculing falsehood” and accused him of denying his humble roots and the people who helped him rise to prominence.
“Wike was nothing more than an errand boy to Amaechi, who made him politically relevant,” Eze said in a strongly worded statement released to the press over the weekend.
“It is laughable to hear him talk about wealth, knowing full well that poverty was as common in his family as the morning sun. His father, if he were alive, would be disappointed at such self-denial. Nigerians must be reminded that it was not Wike who made himself Local Government Chairman or Chief of Staff. These were favours granted by Amaechi, who also nominated him as Minister under the Jonathan administration.”
On the NDDC Allegation Against Dame Judith Amaechi
Eze defended Amaechi’s wife, stating that she had legitimate dealings with the NDDC, while challenging Wike to publicly disclose the role and track record of his own wife, who is a serving judge.
“In dragging Dame Judith Amaechi’s name into a baseless allegation, Wike has crossed a line. Is his own wife fit to remain on the bench, considering she shares a home with someone like Wike whose every action reeks of vendetta and recklessness?”
He questioned the ethical implications of being a judge while married to a controversial politician known for combative outbursts, adding that “the sanctity of justice must not be undermined by association.”
“Amaechi’s Biggest Mistake Was Trusting Wike” – Eze
Chief Eze went further to blame Amaechi for Wike’s political ascendancy, calling it the greatest miscalculation of the former Governor’s political career.
“Everything Amaechi built for Rivers State—education, agriculture, scholarships, health reforms—was systematically dismantled by Wike when he became governor. Wike inherited a framework that could have made Rivers State self-reliant, but he chose instead to govern by destruction and intimidation.”
Eze called on Nigerians to disregard Wike’s attempts to rewrite history, accusing him of using propaganda and populism to mask failures in governance and a lack of vision for development.
