Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has clarified the reasons behind his absence from the recent Council of State meeting, stating that President Bola Tinubu granted him permission not to attend.

Wike made the clarification in Abuja on Tuesday while addressing reports that he deliberately shunned the high-level gathering. He explained that he had official engagements outside the capital city, and the President was fully aware of his schedule.

“There is no basis for the speculation. Mr. President approved my absence because of prior official duties,” the FCT Minister said.

The Council of State meeting, presided over by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, was attended by former heads of state, governors, and other senior government officials. Discussions focused on pressing national issues, including security challenges, the economy, and electoral reforms.

Wike, who previously served as governor of Rivers State, reiterated his commitment to the responsibilities of his office and emphasized that he continues to enjoy the confidence and support of President Tinubu.
