The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has revealed that it plans to generate an estimated revenue of N1.28 trillion in the year 2025.
This projection was announced by the Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, during the 2025 budget defense session held with the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbour in Abuja on Monday.
The new revenue target marks a 40% increase from the N894.8 billion realized in 2024, highlighting the NPAβs ambitious growth strategy for a more efficient and globally competitive port system.
Dr. Dantsoho recalled that the NPA had surpassed its 2024 revenue target of N865.39 billion by generating N894.86 billion β a feat that reaffirms the agencyβs performance under fiscal pressure.
βThis shows our unwavering commitment to national revenue generation, even when our operational liquidity is affected,β Dantsoho remarked.
Providing a breakdown of the proposed 2025 revenue sources, he stated that:
- Ship Dues β N544.06 billion
- Cargo Dues β N413.06 billion
- Concession Fees β N249.69 billion
- Administrative Revenue β N73.07 billion
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, charged the NPA to scale up its performance and improve port infrastructure, stressing the critical role of ports in national development.
βNo country can thrive economically without high-performing ports. They are the economic heartbeat of every nation,β Nnaji said, adding that improved port output directly impacts job creation and overall economic vibrancy.
He urged the agency to present βdetailed strategies on how to improve revenue generation and expand employment opportunities through your 2025 budget.β
Describing the NPA as βnot just a revenue-generating agency but a national economic asset,β Nnaji emphasized the need for innovation, efficiency, and accountability in driving its goals.
