NDLEA Cross River Commander Found Dead in Calabar Hotel

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is mourning the sudden death of its Cross River State Commander, Chief Narcotics Officer Ogbonna Uzoma. He was found lifeless in his hotel room in Calabar after failing to attend scheduled engagements.

According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media & Advocacy at NDLEA, Ogbonna had only assumed his duties on August 18, 2025. His officers became concerned when they did not hear from him by 9 AM on September 18, prompting them and hotel staff to check on him. After attempts to contact him failed, a staff member accessed the room through the ceiling to find him deceased.

The police were immediately notified, and the Commissioner of Police visited the scene to oversee the investigation into the cause of death. NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa has sent the Zonal Commander to assist with the inquiry.

While the cause of death remains unknown, the agency has expressed its condolences to Ogbonna’s family and is committed to a thorough investigation. During his brief tenure, Ogbonna was noted for his active engagement in operational planning, particularly in a state that has been significant for NDLEA operations.
