The Kebbi State Government has disbursed a total of ₦422,174,000 to cover the tuition fees of 6,127 students enrolled in two major higher institutions — Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) and Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) — for the 2024/2025 academic session.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isa Abubakar Tunga, while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

According to him, the government paid ₦211,248,000 for 3,922 Kebbi State–indigenes studying at FUBK and another ₦210,926,000 for 2,205 students enrolled at UDUS.

He added that the move aligns with Governor Nasir Idris’ administration’s commitment to enhancing access to quality education for all indigenes of the state, regardless of their background.

“We are not stopping here,” the Commissioner stated. “Efforts are currently underway to extend this tuition coverage to all Kebbi indigenes studying in other tertiary institutions across Nigeria.”

Alhaji Tunga urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the state’s investment by excelling academically and being worthy ambassadors of Kebbi State across the country.

The initiative has been widely applauded by students, parents, and educational stakeholders, who view it as a major relief amid the rising cost of higher education in Nigeria.
