A local security outfit established by the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Illiyasu Bashar, has arrested six suspected criminals during a midnight patrol in the Rafin Atiku area of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The patrol team, led by the Village Head of Rafin Atiku Gabas, Alhaji Hamza Ahmed BK, and co-supervised by the District Head of Nassarawa, retired Major General Nasir Muhammad, intercepted the suspects as they loitered suspiciously in the area.

“We noticed them moving suspiciously at odd hours and intercepted them before they could carry out any criminal act,” said Alhaji Hamza. “They appeared to be planning break-ins before we moved in and apprehended them.”

The arrested individuals—identified as Sanusi, Humaidu, Bashar, Bello, Abbas, and a woman named Suwaiba—were immediately handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Birnin Kebbi LGA on July 31, 2025, for further investigation.

Following preliminary investigation, they were arraigned before Upper Sharia Court 5 and have since been remanded in prison custody pending further legal proceedings.

Alhaji Hamza commended the dedication of the security group and appreciated the Emir’s support in strengthening grassroots security.

“We are doing our part at the community level, and it is heartening to have the support of our traditional and government institutions,” he said.

He also praised the Kebbi State Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents across the state.

Community-driven patrols like this continue to serve as a crucial element in curbing criminal activities and protecting lives and property in Kebbi.
