A total of 120 young people in Kebbi State have completed a four-month intensive training in computer literacy and tailoring, thanks to a collaborative initiative by the Alkali Hussaini Foundation and the Kebbi Development Forum.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held in Birnin Kebbi, the Chairperson of the Foundation and former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Salamatu Hussaini Suleman, shared her optimism about the future of the graduates. She noted that with the practical skills they’ve gained, they are now better equipped to improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
“This foundation was established eleven years ago to empower youth through vocational training. Many of our past beneficiaries are already making a difference in their lives and their surroundings,” she said.
Hajiya Salamatu appreciated the support from donors who provided starter packs to help the graduates begin their entrepreneurial journey. She urged young people across the state to embrace skills acquisition instead of depending solely on government or office jobs.
Also speaking at the event, Alhaji Abdullahi Sani Mungadi, Secretary of the Kebbi Development Forum, assured the foundation of continued partnership. He encouraged the graduates to apply what they’ve learned in order to bring positive change to their immediate environment.
Representatives from the Ministries of Higher Education, Lower Education, and Women Affairs, who were also present at the event, reiterated the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment through practical training initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment.
Programme coordinator, Malam Yaseen Hammani, explained that the training covered both male and female participants, including youth living with disabilities.
The initiative is seen as part of a broader effort to equip young Nigerians with marketable skills that align with the evolving needs of the economy.
