The Obidient Movement has officially debunked ongoing speculations suggesting a political alliance or joint ticket arrangement between former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, the Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, stated that no such discussions have taken place and described the rumour as a “fiction of people’s imagination.”

“That topic hasn’t even come up. People are speculating, but there’s no such talk now,” Tanko clarified.

He noted that while conversations are ongoing regarding a possible coalition to challenge the current administration, no agreement has been reached, particularly between Obi and Atiku.

“There are already conversations going on to see how we can merge a lot of forces together. It’s not necessarily just Peter Obi and the Labour Party. It’s about Nigeria and how we can rescue the country,” he added.

Tanko emphasized that any future political arrangement must serve the best interests of Nigerians and not be based on political calculations alone.

He reaffirmed Peter Obi’s commitment to building a credible coalition driven by competence, vision, and national interest—rather than ethnicity, religion, or party loyalty.

“It’s not going to be business as usual. If he (Obi) raises a candidate’s hand today, people will follow him. That’s the truth. It’s not about the party anymore, it’s about the individual and the values he represents,” Tanko said.

This clarification comes amid growing speculation that leading opposition figures are secretly negotiating a grand alliance to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Despite these speculations, the Obidient Movement maintains that its goal is to align with any political forces that genuinely seek to reposition Nigeria, but such conversations remain at the exploratory stage.
